The censure of Chautala came for his statement made inside the house about long-term and short-term farmers loans waived off during the government of Chautala’s father Devi Lal in 1987-88.

Congress legislators raised objections to Chautala’s statement, saying that he was misleading the house.

The assembly speaker constituted a committee of ministers and legislators March 14 to know the facts. The committee submitted its report to the house Friday and pointed out that Chautala had misled the house.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda later told reporters that it was for the first time in the history of the assembly that a member has been censured for misleading the house.

Hooda said Chautala should resign on moral grounds after his censure by the assembly.
