Athens : The Olympic flame was handed over to Liu Qi, president of the Beijing Olympic Games Organising Committee, at a grand ceremony held in the marble Panathenian stadium here Sunday.
Minos Kyriakou, president of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, delivered the flame to Liu in the presence of thousands of spectators.
The flame, which was lighted in Ancient Olympia last week, entered Athens Saturday after a six-day relay journey in Greece. The torch is to arrive March 31 on a purpose-fitted airliner in Beijing, from where the torch relay will commence.
