Khaliq-ur-Rehman, an inspector of the Intelligence Bureau (IB),was ambushed when he was returning home after offering Friday prayers in Charsadda, a town in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province.

The slain IB official suffered two bullets, one on chest which caused his death, News Network International (NNI) quoted police as saying.

The assailants, believed to be local militants, fled after the shooting, the NNI said.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

It is the second murder of intelligence officials in the same region in less than four months.

A senior IB officer Nisar Ali Khan was killed by unidentified gunmen in January in Charsadda.

Reports say the attacks are targeted at intelligence officials for their monitoring of suspected militants hiding in northwestern Pakistan.
