Vienna : The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Chief Mohammad El-Baradei announced Friday that he agreed with Iranian top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani on putting a two-month plan to resolve differences regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
This announcement came in a press briefing after both official met here for two hours, discussing matters regarding the troublesome nuclear file.
The plan would help to verify the nature of the Iranian Atomic program, said El-Baradei who added that Tehran agreed to fully cooperate with IAEA.
The diplomatic choice must always be considered when dealing with such matters and hopefully the meeting between European Union’s (EU) foreign policy chief Javier Solana and Larijani on Saturday would adopt this notion, he said.
On the issue, Larijani affirmed that Tehran’s program would go toe-in-toe with IAEA regulations and the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Speaking about the meeting with Solana, the Iranian official said that Iran’s would go on its peaceful program, focusing on enriching uranium for energy generating purposes.
Imposing UN sanctions would not be the answer, said Larijani, suggesting that negotiations and talks were good alternatives to end the nuclear discussions.
Larijani will head to Lisbon in order to meet with Solana in an attempt to find a solution for the Iranian file before international powers impose harsher sanctions on Tehran.
Meanwhile, El-Baradei revealed that head of the Agency’s Safeguard Olli Heinonen would head to North Korea to supervise the shut down plan for the Pyongyang nuclear weapons program.
