Baghdad : At least three soldiers and a policeman were killed and two civilians injured in gunfire and bomb attacks in Diyala province Saturday, a provincial police source said.
A roadside bomb struck an Iraqi army patrol in the Al-Wajihiyah town near the capital city of Baquba, some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, destroying a military vehicle and killing an army officer and two of his soldiers aboard, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
In a separate incident, an Iraqi police officer was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Shiekh Saad village near Baquba, the source said.
In addition, two civilians were wounded when a roadside bomb planted in front of a house in the Al-Hay neighbourhood in central Baquba exploded, he said.
Diyala province, which stretches from eastern edges of Baghdad to the Iranian border, has been a hotbed of insurgency.
