By KUNA,

Kuwait : National Assembly elections 2008 candidates in the second constituency asserted that the Kuwaiti people can be trusted with the state’s best interest and that the people have the right to share power, noting “that is the source of people’s solidity with the political authority.” NA 2008 candidates Jamaan Al-Harbash and Duaij Al-Shimiri’s statements came during their joint seminar, opening their campaign headquarters in Al-Faiha area Saturday night.

Al-Harbash said, “We want opposition, we need reform and supervision, but on the other hand, there are those who want to steal power from the people through disrupting the state’s legislative institutions and calling for amendment of constitution.” He also highlighted that ministers, like MPs, are “members of the public as well as statesmen,” pointing out that ministers bear a great responsibility towards country and people.

Meanwhile, Al-Shimiri said that all should review the negatives, on both former MPs’ or government’s side, “and diagnose the illness to work out a cure.

” He added that the previous legislative term saw MPs pointing out these points of weakness and saw the government fail at confrontation.

“The country has many qualified figures, and the constitution states that the bulk of government formation should come from the National Assembly. But the fact of the matter is that the opposite is implemented as the exceptions were upheld instead of the rule”, Al-Shimiri said.

He added, “To disagree is normal, but what is required is a higher level of dialogue between the two powers on such occasions.” The second constituency includes 13 areas, with a total 41,365 voters, 19, 262 men and 22,103 women.
