Islamabad : Deserting President Pervez Musharraf, the former ruling party Sunday admitted that the President made a mistake by ousting judges of the higher court and went to the extent of offering help in resolving the judicial crisis, apparently creating friction at the heart of the government.
Chauhdary Shujjat Hussain, the President of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q), and Mushahid Hussain, the party Secretary General, addressing a press conference in eastern Lahore city offered the ruling coalition the initiative of tabling a resolution in the assembly that will seek reinstatement of all judges, including the Chief Justice.
The PML-Q offer came as a twist in the ongoing controversy between the ruling coalition partners, the PML-N and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), over the restoration of Judges.
PML-N wants to reinstate all judges while the PPP wants to make some amendments in the constitution regarding tenure of the Chief Justice before restoration.
The two parties had agreed to restore all judges by April 30, however, the deadline is expected to be missed.
The leadership of the two parties had agreed to introduce a resolution in the National Assembly that will lead to Judges restoration.
PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said that his party will table a resolution to resolve the issue of deposed judges if the government failed to do so.
He said the issue has become a political issue now and the government must resolve it, adding, “If the government failed to resolve the crisis of judiciary, his party would table a resolution against the government in the house.” Meanwhile, Mushahid Hussain in blunt comments said that President Musharraf made a big mistake by removing judges of the higher court. He urged the government to fulfill its commitment by restoring judges within 30-days.
President Musharraf imposed emergency rule in November last year and sacked the Chief Justice and all senior judges to save his candidacy as the next President of Pakistan.
