Talking to newsmen in Peshawar, capital of NWFP, Chief Minister Amir Hotti urged Taliban to show flexibility to make peace negotiations successful. He said military troops have been deployed in the region to maintain law and order situation, adding that they will be withdrawn when situation will return to normalcy.

The CM said further that earlier withdrawal of troops from the area will create a gap that could be filled by anyone. He was hinting at extremists taking control of the tribal belt.

His comments came a day after local Taliban militants announced calling off peace negotiations with the government and hinted at deadlock over significant issues on both sides. However, they announced to keep the unilateral ceasefire intact.

Maulvi Omar, a purported spokesman for the local Taliban umbrella group Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), talking to media said that they were dismissing peace negotiations as they could not resolve certain issues including withdrawal of forces and wrap up of security check posts.

As the government has not fulfilled its commitment, he said, they will resume attacks on security forces if they operated against us.

The newly-installed government launched talks with Taliban militants to end year-long wave of suicide attacks, spreading to other parts of the country as well. The negotiations though have been opposed by the US but the EU and Britain has backed them.
