Tehran : Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki underlined the importance of cooperation among Islamic countries parliaments and said the move started when unilateralism was dominant on international relations.
Secretary General of Inter-Parliamentary Union of member countries of Organization of Islamic Conference Ebrahim Oaf at the end of his tenure met with Mottaki here Wednesday.
According to the report of Foreign Ministry Media Department, in the farewell meeting, Mottaki appreciated activities of Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union( IIPU) secretariat during eight years presiding period of Oaf and expressed hope that the programs and aims of the union can be followed during the new secretary general, too.
In the meeting, Oaf noted, “After September 11, 2001 event the US government confrontation with the USSR transformed into confrontation with Muslim countries, so gathering of Muslim countries to defend themselves against US invasion was an important move and creating Inter-Parliamentary Union was a considerable action.
Referring to the cultural, religious and historical commonalities between the two countries of Iran and Egypt, the outgoing secretary general of IIPU called for increasing ties between Tehran and Cairo.
