Chennai : Two construction workers were killed and 28 trapped in the debris after a bridge under construction across the Vellar river in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu collapsed Thursday.
The bridge, about 60 km from Tiruchirapally, was being built as part of highway work between Tiruchirapally and Villupuram 30 people were working at the site, trying to remove a huge boulder, which collapsed on them.
Official said rescue work was in progress but several more workers could be dead. Six seriously injured men were admitted to hospitals.
Top officials from Cuddalore and Perambalur districts rushed to the site.
