The prisoners fled into forests, and despite massive search operations the police have failed to track down any Maoist. Then jail official B.S. Mankar was suspended and later arrested on charges of sedition.

“We are moving an application with the Hyderabad-based Central Forensic Science Laboratory for Mankar’s narco test. We hope the test will be completed in a month or so,” Dantewada district Superintendent of Police Rahul Sharma told reporters Saturday.

The police reportedly seized some letters and pamphlets from Mankar’s residence in Dantewade town a next day after the Dec 16 jailbreak.

The letters were apparently written by Maoist leaders and addressed to Mankar. Police said they were about the planned jailbreak.

Police sources say the jail break was a part of a larger conspiracy involving certain police officials in Dantewada town and a few top Maoist guerillas.

Dantewada is considered the worst hit district in India on account of Maoist violence.
