New Delhi : A cloudy sky and light rain brought relief to the capital Monday from the searing heat, but the strong winds caused disruption of nearly two dozen flights.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the city recorded nearly 1 mm of rainfall in the evening, bringing down the maximum temperature to 36.8 degrees Celsius, a whopping six degrees less than Sunday.
“After the rain Delhi recorded a temperature of 27 degrees Celsius at 8.30 p.m. We are expecting the Tuesday temperature to revolve round 39 degrees Celsius,” an IMD official told IANS.
People were seen coming out of their homes on the roads and rooftops to enjoy the summer drizzle.
Meanwhile, air turbulence due to cyclonic wind disrupted the flight schedule of nearly two dozens flights.
“The flight movement was affected in a major way for nearly 30 minutes Monday evening,” said an official of Delhi airport.
The official said that eight inbound flights – three Jet airways, three Jetlite and two Indian flights – were diverted to nearby airports like Lucknow and Jaipur. Several flights were delayed to avoid any untoward incidents.
