United Nations : UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon condemned Sunday the outbreak of fighting on the outskirts of Khartoum, and voiced his concern over the clashes.
In a statement released here, the UN chief strongly condemned the use of armed force and military means by the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM).
Ban also calls for an immediate cessation of fighting, and expressed his anxiety at the effect (JEM fighting) would have on the overall situation in Sudan, as well as on the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and Darfur Agreement, the UN press release claimed.
He also warned on the possible effect on civilian lives and property of any escalation of such attack.
In Sudan, the government claimed to have repulsed a rebel attack on the capital, following heavy clashes and the imposition of an emergency curfew.
JEM is a faction of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A) that along other rebel groups have been fighting since 2003.
