Malaysia sends humanitarian aid to Myanmar cyclone victims

Kuala Lumpur : Malaysian government has sent humanitarian aid worth 500,000 ringgit (155,763 U.S. dollars) to Cyclone Nargis victims in Myanmar, National Security Council (NSC) secretary said here on Monday.

The aid was flown to Yangon by a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) aircraft on Monday morning, National Security Council (NSC) secretary Muhammad Hatta Abd Aziz said after sending off the humanitarian aid at the RMAF base.

“An 18-member mission … will hand over the aid to the Myanmar government through Malaysian Ambassador in Yangon Mazlan Mohd on Monday afternoon,” the national news agency Bernama quoted Muhammad as saying.

The aid mission members were from the Armed Forces, Foreign Ministry, Health Ministry and Malaysian Red Crescent Society, Muhammad said.

“The aid includes blankets, T-shirts, biscuits, instant noodles, water purification tablet and medicines,” he said.
