Police had to use teargas shells and baton-charge the workers of the MYL, the youth wing of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), as they started pelting stones at the cops.

The march to the collectorate here was organised by the Youth League as part of the organisation’s state-wide campaign against the “anti-people” policies of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, which is set to observe its second anniversary May 18.

A protest march organised by the MYL to the collectorate at Palakkad, 160 km from Kochi, also resulted in scuffles between the protestors and police.
