Kuala Lumpur : A special team of Malaysian police began work Thursday at the country’s international airport after a spate of crimes.
A battalion of 141 officers was formed to provide round-the-clock security at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), said Musa Hassan, inspector general of police.
“The decision to station the special force at the KLIA was made following discussions with various government agencies, and I hope the people will not be intimidated by its presence but will extend their cooperation,” he was quoted as saying by the official Bernama news agency.
Crimes ranging from snatch thefts to armed robberies are often reported at the airport.
Last month, four armed men shot and injured five people, among them a police officer and a money-changer, during a 3.3-million-ringgit ($970,000) robbery there.
