India considered Tibet as integral part of China: Minister

Yekaterinburg, Russia : India insisted it considered Tibet as an integral part of China and said it will ensure security and sanctity of Chinese nationals and diplomatic premises in the country.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who is here to attend the trilateral India, Russia, China and Brazil ministerial meetings, conveyed this to his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi at an hour-long meeting on Thursday.

Mukherjee also said India backed the 2008 Beijing Olympics to be held later this year.

“Olympic Games are an international event and India simply fulfilled its international obligations,” Mukherjee is reported to have told Yang.

Noting that Sino-Indian relations were becoming “increasingly close”, Yang expressed hoped that Mukherjee’s next month visit to China will give a boost to further development of ties in the spirit of “Shared vision of the 21st Century” signed by Chinese President Hu Jintao and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

During his talks with Mukherjee, Yang also noted the resumption of Beijing’s dialogue with the representatives of the Dalai Lama, without going into details and thanked India for “ensuring the security and smooth relay” of Olympic Torch on its soil.

Mukherjee and Yang are here to attend the trilateral India, Russia, China and Brazil ministerial meetings.

Yang thanked India for deep sympathy for the quake victims and expressed readiness to accept humanitarian aid.
