Delegation criticise Bihar govt for neglecting minority education

Patna: A delegation of Anjuman Taraqqui Urdu Bihar lead by Abdul Qaiyum Ansari, secretary Anjuman and General Secretary Bihar Minority Educational Board, yesterday met with Justice MSA Siddiqui, Chairman of National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI).

Justice Siddiqui was on an official visit to Bihar to meet minorities’ leaders and government officials to discuss the educational status of minorities in the state. He left hours after landing in Patna because state government did not offer him the protocol necessary for him to perform his work.

In few hours that he was in the state capital, he met some of the Muslim leaders associated with the field of education. The cause of backwardness of minorities in education and its solution were discussed in this meeting. Chairman was asked to take up issues of concern with government officials.

The delegation told the chairman that Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian university is established but work on curriculum is yet to start. They also blamed the govt. for not facilitating the University for its recognition by University Grants Commission (UGC). They demanded that the university be given 100 acres of land and 1 crore rupees.

At the school level, the state government promised to give text books free to all minority students but these books are no where in sight. The delegation members demanded appointment of Urdu teachers in primary, secondary and college level.

A memorandum presented to Justice Siddiqui demanded that minorities should be be part of selection committees of all universities and colleges, this should be regularized by amending the concerned acts.

Chairman of Bihar minority educational board Ahmad Ashfaque Karim was also part of this delegation.

NCMEI was established in 2004 and recommends governments with regards to minorities education.
