Sharm El-Shiekh (Egypt) : US President George W. Bush Sunday said Iran will not be allowed to posses nuclear weapons.
Bush made the remarks in a special address to the inaugural session of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the Middle East in the Egyptian Red Sea resort here.
He called for efforts from the Islamic world to stop Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, and added that otherwise it would be an unforgivable betrayal of future generations.
Iran, however, has repeatedly denied seeking the atomic bomb, saying that its nuclear program is peaceful and aimed solely at generating energy.
Bush, who arrived here Saturday, also urged Middle East countries to isolate Iran and its closest regional ally Syria, as well as confront Palestinian group Hamas, which is listed by the US and Europe as a terrorist group.
On Lebanon, Bush called on the country’s neighbours and other nations in the Middle East to oppose the Shia Islamic movement Hezbollah as rival Lebanese leaders were meeting in Qatar in a bid to resolve a protracted political crisis.
The crisis have resulted in deadly clashes between government supporters and opponents earlier this month, leaving at least 72 people dead and about 200 injured.
