Moscow : Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered the government on Monday to institute anti-corruption measures and established a special council headed by himself in a bid to pay his election bill.
“Something must be done. We must stop waiting. Corruption has turned into a systemic problem, and we must counter it with a systemic response,” Itar-Tass news agency quoted the new head of state as saying at a special meeting in Moscow.
In a presidential decree inked by Medvedev on Monday, he ordered the government to lay out a national anti-corruption plan which will list “a package of measures,” Kremlin officials said.
“The president gave instructions to prepare a national plan to fight corruption within a month,” Sergei Naryshkin, the head of the presidential administration, was quoted as saying.
Medvedev, taking office on May 7, has pledged during his election campaign to focus on the rule of law, eliminating corruption and bureaucracy while improving the people’s life.
