New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on 19th May said some anti-national forces are trying to divide the country in the name of religion, language and community.
Addressing Urdu Media Conference in the national capital, she said we will have to work together for development of the country because only when we get united India will become a great power of the world. She admitted that minorities are lagging in the field of education and also economically compared to others. Besides government, Muslims should also work on their own to overcome their backwardness, she said.
The chief minister added that it would be great injustice to associate terrorism with any religion. Since it is an ulcer for the society, we should face it together. About implementation of Sachar Committee recommendations, Delhi chief minister said the implementation of the recommendations will open a new chapter in the progress of the Muslim community. She stressed the need of modernization of education imparted in madrasas and added that madrasas should be modernized so that students can get jobs after completing education from there. She also said her government is ready to provide all possible assistance to the community for modernization of madrasas.
Addressing the conference organized by Urdu daily Hamara Samaj, K. Rahman Khan, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, said it is necessary to change the mind of administration to implement recommendations of Sachar Committee. The recommendations will be very difficult to implement until bureaucrats change their mind. This is necessary to ensure social justice also. He mentioned Prime Minister’s 15-point programme and expressed disappointment that Muslims did not try to take benefits of the programme. He added that Muslim organizations, along with the government, should work for betterment and progress of the Muslim community. He praised Muslim organizations of southern India that have spread a network of educational institutions on their own effort.
Maulana Mahmood Madani, Member of Rajya Sabha, said Muslims never supported terrorism and Islam always remained against violence. He expressed sorrow that Muslims have to prove their loyalty to the nation time and again.
BJP General Secretary Prakash Javadekar said his party has never been against Muslims; rather it is a friend of minorities. He said resolution of problems of minorities is not the responsibility of the government alone but also the minorities themselves.
