Damascus : Syrian President Bashar al Assad received on Wednesday a message from his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul reportedly dealing with the peace negotiations Damascus had started with Israel under Turkish sponsorship.
Turkish parliament member Mohammad Cendar, who is also Chief of the Turkish-Syrian Friendship Society convyed the message during his reception by Assad here today, a Syrian Presidential statement said.
The Turkish parliamentarian voiced his country’s support to Arab causes and underlined Syria’s role in solving pending Arab issues.
Assad and the Turkish lawmaker also reviewed bilateral economic relations and means to activate parliamentary ties.
A Syrian foreign ministry source said earlier that Damascus was involved in indirect peace talks with Israel under Turkish sponsorship.
The Syrian and Israeli sides affirmed their desire for good will talks and agreed to continue serious talks to achieve peace, the source said.
