Forth Worth (Texas) : Daniel Chopra, starting the day with a double bogey on the tenth, never really recovered from the setback and ended the day at three-over 73 in tied 94th place at the end of the first round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at the Colonial on Thursday.
The Indo-Swede, who won the season’s first event at the Mercedes Benz Championships, had one double bogey, three bogeys and just two birdies. Chopra’s two birdies came on successive holes, the 18th and first.
Johnson Wagner bogeyed two of three holes midway through the first round but still shot a seven-under 63. Wagner’s 63 had nine birdies and two bogeys.
He held a two-stroke lead over No. 2-ranked Phil Mickelson and Brett Wetterich.
Five of the world’s top 10 players are in the field. Mickelson was the only one to start with a subpar round, while Jim Furyk (71), Geoff Ogilvy (72), K.J. Choi (73) and Steve Stricker (74) were way behind.
