Uttar Pradesh board exams: girls do better, but not among toppers

Allahabad : Girls outshone boys by a wide overall margin in the Uttar Pradesh board exams for Class 12, results of which were declared Sunday. But no girl could find a place among the 10 toppers.

UP Higher Secondary Board director K.M. Tripathi told reporters: “The total pass percentage of girls in the Class 12 exams is 80.8, while that of boys is 54.26.”

The overall pass percentage in the examinations is 65.05, he added.

This year, 1,704,660 candidates registered for the UP Board exams, out of which 1,108,869 candidates passed the exams.

Students from Lucknow and Kanpur dominated the top 10 merit positions.

Sandeep Singh, a student of Lucknow Public Inter College, topped the exams by securing 92 percent.

Anurag Katiyar, a student of BSND college, Kanpur bagged the second position by securing 91.2 percent.

The third position was shared by Subhanshu Gautam of Lucknow Public Inter College and Sparsh Singhal of BSND, Kanpur. Both secured 90.2 percent.
