Dhaka : At least seven people were killed and three injured when thunderstorms driven by a monsoon pounded northern Bangladesh, officials said Sunday.
Three rice farmers were killed in the Nawabganj district when they were hit by a thunderbolt amid driving rain.
Two people were also critically injured in heavy showers in Nawabganj, a rich farming area, around 310 km north of Dhaka, mayor Abdur Rahman said.
Four people were killed when lightning struck mango orchards in the neighbouring Noagaon district, some 340 km north of Dhaka late Saturday.
A woman was among the victims working in the orchards during pre- monsoon torrents. Police said one person was admitted to a hospital with injuries.
