Cairo : An Arab economic report has revealed varying rates of inflation in the Arab states in 2007 compared to the previous year, as a remarkable decline was reported in 11 Arab countries including Kuwait, whose inflation rate dipped to 2.8 per cent compared with 3.2 per cent in 2006.
The report, which was prepared by Secretary-General of the Arab Economic Unity Council Dr Ahmed Goweili, said that inflation rates rose in seven Arab countries and stabilized in one country.
The report gave no date on inflation in three Arab countries including Somalia, Iraq and Palestine.
The report, which will be submitted to the 87th ministerial round of the council slated in Alexandria on June 5 revealed that the rate of inflation in Jordan dropped to 5.7 per cent in 2007 compared with 6.3 in 2006 while inflation rate dropped in the UAE to 6.2 per cent compared with 10.1 per cent.
It also pointed to a drop of inflation rate in Tunisia to 3 per cent compared with 4.5 per cent, Djibouti from 3.6 per cent to 3.5 per cent and in Syria it dropped to 8 per cent in 2007 compared with 10 per cent in 2006.
In Qatar, the inflation rate retreated to 10 per cent compared with 11.8 per cent, while in Lebanon it droppedo 3.5 per cent compared with 5.6 per cent whereas in Morocco it retreated to 2 per cent compared with 3.3 per cent.
