Agartala : The Tripura government has urged the central government to deploy adequate number of army soldiers to deal with any kind of natural disasters in the northeast, officials said here Wednesday.
“Besides the security related exigencies, there should be adequate number of army soldiers in the northeast to cope with any kind of calamíties, including earthquakes,” Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar told Lieutenant General V.K. Singh, general-officer-commanding-in-chief (GOC-in-C) the army’s Eastern Command.
The chief minister met the army commander late Tuesday here.
According to a government statement, Singh agreed to the chief minister’s suggestion and assured all possible help.
“Sarkar and Singh also held discussion on the security scenario in the region,” the release added.
