The website, which has been functioning the since past two years, offers its services in 130 cities across the country, including Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi and its neighbouring areas.

According to Udit Bhandari, founder and CEO of the website, the free-of-charge services have helped over 1,500 commuters till date.

“We are facing an inevitable fuel price hike caused by insatiable global demand. The world over, commuters are evaluating options to save fuel. Car-pooling is an easy solution which helps cut fuel costs by at least 50 percent and has many other environmental benefits too,” he said.

As a promotional offer, 10 of those registering on Indimoto.com for a carpool in June 2008 will win a full tank of fuel each and be featured on Indimoto’s blog, IndiBlog.

“Commuters don’t need to own a car to carpool as they can carpool with other car owners and share the fuel cost. Through this medium of car-pooling, fuel expenses, traffic chaos, pollution and carbon emissions can be effectively reduced,” Bhandari said.

“Although commuters in India have been slow in adopting this, seeing the present day conditions, its bound to catch on soon and for good,” he added.
