Washington : The United States said Thursday it is committed to helping Israel and Palestine reach a peace agreement by the end of this year despite twists and turns in the process.
“Right now, we do, though, have an Israeli government and a Palestinian Authority government that are committed to working with one another. We have the prime minister and President Abbas, who are both committed to achieving that agreement,” State Department deputy spokesman Tom Casey said.
“And certainly, there are all kinds of ups and downs and twists and turns in this process. And we’ve seen them already, since the Annapolis conference,” Casey said.
“But I don’t think anything has changed the fundamental agreement of both parties to move forward with this, nor our desire to see that happen and our continued desire to help and assist in that process in whatever way we can,” Casey added.
The United States has tried its efforts to push forward the Middle East peace process by hosting an international conference on the Middle East peace in Annapolis, Maryland in November last year. However, the Middle East peace has made little progress since then.
