According to Friday’s The Himalayan Times report, the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly (CA) had directed the government to take necessary steps to get the palace premises vacated and secure its property from the former king and bring it under government control within 15 days and convert it into a national museum.

“The committee has decided to dispatch a formal letter to the former king and his secretariat to vacate the palace within 10 days,” Minister for Labor and Transport Management Ramesh Lekhak, who is a member of the committee, told the daily.

According to Lekhak, the committee has also directed the Home Ministry to take necessary measures to protect the palace premises.

In order to bring the palace property under government control, the committee also formed a high-level committee comprising secretaries of the Ministry of General Administration, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Home and the Comptroller General.

The committee has been assigned to bring the palace property under government control within 10 days.

“The government is committed to implement the agenda of federal democratic republic. The government, therefore, appeals to the people to maintain restraint in the changed political context,” the committee stated in its decision.

The government had already decided to nationalize all palaces, including the Narayanhiti Palace, before the nation went for CA polls on April 10.
