11 held while identifying extortion victims

Varanasi : Eleven people from Nepal were held while they were allegedly identifying people in this city from whom they could extort money, the police said Saturday.

The gang operated mainly from Nepal and besides Uttar Pradesh, they had aides in other Indian states, Senior Superintendent of Police (Varanasi) Vijay Prakash told IANS.

He said the gang used to make extortion calls from Nepal to evade the police here.

Five revolvers made in Italy, three pistols of local manufacture and several cartridges were seized from them, he said.
