Islamabad, Pakistan : Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry says it has asked the United Nations to investigate the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
Bhutto died in a gun-and-suicide bomb attack in December as she left an election rally in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi.
Her party leads the two-month-old coalition government and says the possible involvement of international terrorists means the U.N. should investigate, the Associated Press reported.
Ministry spokesman Mohammed Sadiq said Pakistan’s ambassador to the U.N. handed the request to the world body’s secretary-general, Ban Ki-moon, in New York on Friday.
