UAE pledges $250 mn in reconstruction aid to Afghanistan

Paris : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has pledged $250 million in reconstruction aid to Afghanistan at the international donor conference for the country here, WAM news agency reported Friday.

The announcement was made Thursday by the UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan.

The minister hailed the French government for organising the donor conference and supported the reconstruction plan put forward by the Afghan government.

The UAE is also currently implementing a programme in collaboration with Spain and Poland for encouraging Afghan farmers to give up opium poppy cultivation.

The donor conference is being attended by delegates from 65 countries and 15 international organisations.
