Kozhikode : A car sales outlet, owned by a Kerala MP on government land here, is in trouble as the Kozhikode district administration initiated action to take back the land, originally given to a steel company to build a factory.
The land was given to the West India Steel Company in 1964 to set up a steel unit. The company closed down in 1997. Later, P.V. Abdul Wahab, Indian Union Muslim League leader and Rajya Sabha MP, started his car sales outlet there.
Kozhikode district collector A. Jayathilak in the notice issued Friday asked the steel company to show cause why the land should not be taken back since it is not being used for the purpose for which it was allotted.
The notice clarifies that the action is being taken since the terms of the agreement under which the land was allotted to the company had been violated.
Wahab was recently in the news for having got into a spat with an airline pilot, during which he reportedly called the pilot a “glorified driver”.
