Touqan told reporters that he and visiting president of the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) Lady Barbara Judge had signed the document, which paves the way for a nuclear cooperation agreement between the two countries before the end of the year.

Britain promised to put its nuclear know-how at the disposal of the JAEC for the exploration and mining of uranium ores in Jordan. It also promised to provide nuclear reactors in Jordan to ensure a stable nuclear fuel service at feasible prices, Touqan said.

Britain is the third western nation to sign a nuclear cooperation memorandum with Jordan. The Hashemite Kingdom inked a similar memorandum with Canada May 31 to follow an existing one with France.
