This religious site, one mile from the Indian border in the Dera Baba Nanak area, in the state of Punjab, has a historical, religious significance for the Sikh population, as it is linked to the first Sikh guru, Nanak Dev.

The Kartarpur Sahib was one of the most religious places for Sikhs, as the founder of the Sikh religion, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, had spent major part of his life at this place.

It lies around 3 kilometers westwards from Dera Baba Nanak in district Gurdaspur on Pakistan side.

The religious corridor was discussed during a visit by Pakistani Foreign Minister Mahmoud Qureshi to India over the weekend to discuss ways to promote peace, confidence and cooperation.

Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who visited the area on Saturday, said experts will carry out a feasibility study to see how the corridor will be constructed, as requested by Sikh leaders in Punjab.
