Seven Pak-based rebels, Indian Army officer killed in Jammu Kashmir encounter

New Delhi : At least seven Pakistan-based insurgents and an Indian army officer have been killed near the Line of Control (LoC) dividing Indian-administered and Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir in an ongoing encounter that began last Monday. A group of insurgents from across the border had infiltrated into in the Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir last Monday night, a Defence Ministry spokesperson told reporters Wednesday. Following the infiltration, Indian Army men launched a flushing out operation, the spokesperson said, adding, the operation was still continuing.

While seven insurgents have been gunned down so far, one Indian Army officer was also killed in the encounter, the spokesperson added.
