Nepal-Sri Lanka air route mooted

Colombo : The possibility of connecting the two SAARC nations Sri Lanka and Nepal by air routes was focused at the discussion held between Sri Lanka Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama and the Prime Minister of Nepala, Girija Prasad Koirala when both parties met in Kathmandu.

Foreign Minister Bogollagama is in the Nepali Capital to handover the formal invitation from President Mahinda Rajapaksa to Mr. Koirala to attend the 15th SAARC Summit to be in Colombo on 2-3 August 2008.

On accepting the invitation, the Nepali Prime Minister assured that Nepal would participate in the Summit and thanked the Foreign Minister for the invitation. He extended his best wishes for a successful Summit.

During the discussion, they exchanged views on the internal situation in their respective countries, and matters of bilateral and regional interest. The Prime Minister while commenting positively on the progress of SAARC, emphasized that the commitment to implement all policies and agreements should be a key priority of the Association in its efforts to realize the objectives of SAARC.

The Sri Lankan Foreign Minister also met the Chairman of the Communist Party of Maoists (CPM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal and discussed matters pertaining to strengthening both bilateral and regional cooperation.
