Cindy Marcia Fairburn denied during trial in the New Plymouth district court having murdered Darren Paul Maxwell, 42, in August by crashing into an oncoming sports utility vehicle the driver of which was seriously injured in the incident.

The prosecution said Maxwell clung onto the car as she swerved from side to side to try to dislodge him in an act of revenge after she accused him of sexually assaulting their daughter, Radio New Zealand reported.

But a medical examination subsequently found no evidence to support the assault allegation, the court was told.
