Chennai : The Congress party removed M. Krishnaswamy from the post of party chief in Tamil Nadu and appointed former union minister K.V. Thangabalu to head the state Congress committee Monday.
The change of guard at the helm of the state party is keenly observed in wake of the rift between the ruling DMK and PMK in the state.
Krishnaswamy is the father-in-law of Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, son of PMK founder S. Ramadoss. Though the two parties parted ways in Tamil Nadu, both are members in the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the centre.
For Thangabalu, who is also a member of parliament, this is the second innings as Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) chief.
