In an interview in Okaz newspaper Wednesday, Lahidan described Al-Qaeda’s calls for its members to target oil installations and kill policemen “a call of crime and destruction and one of the worst crimes on earth.”

He also said everyone who is a member of this terrorist organization, either in thought or practice, must be punished.

Lahidan praised the police’s pre-emptive attacks to wipe out this evil and eliminate the foreign support these terrorists receive.

He further explained that heeding the recent two messages from Al-Qaeda’s number two in command, Ayman Al-Zawahiri, calling for the collection of funds, is a “crime against this country.”

He also stressed that protecting youth was a shared responsibility between the school, the family and the society, not to mention the increasing role media is playing.

On joining Osama bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda, Lahidan said, “This man, with what he is committing, is not a man of reform and good intentions, but rather evil and destruction.”

The Saudi Ministry of Interior had recently announced the apprehension of more than 700 terror suspects, 520 of which remain in custody while the rest were released because there was no proof they were members of these terrorist organizations.

Large caches of weapons, documents and money have also been found.
