The student – Jose Lorance – Sunday said: “I have done this many times and now my parents are ready to approach the Guinness Book of World records authorities. Once they are ready I will perform in front of them.”

The existing record is in the name of Hyderabad-based Nishal Narayanan who memorised and recalled 225 words.

At a press conference here Sunday, Jose memorised and recalled 50 random English words.

An aide wrote down the words on a sheet of paper and gave them serial numbers. The wonder kid memorised the words and recalled them all. Jose was able to recall the words in reverse order too.

Jose’s mother Rani said that he has had good memory from childhood.

“He started when he was two years old by memorising the items in the kitchen and slowly he began developing this talent. He also got a lot of help from his teachers and has won several competitions too,” Rani told IANS.

“The number of words that he is able to recall has been going up by the year. A few years back he was able to recall 100 words and now it has touched 250. He is trying to increase that also,” said Jose’s father, A.J. Lorance, who is a scientist at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre here.

A bright student, Jose aspires to be a computer engineer.

“We have recorded his feat on a CD and will approach the Guinness Book authorities asking for their presence for his performance,” said Rani.
