The incident occurred around 11 a.m. at the CRPF camp within the premises of the Mayur Vihar police station in east Delhi.

“Head constable P.C. Yadav and constable Rajveer Singh fired at each other with their service rifles,” said CRPF Commandant Ravideep Sahi.

“Yadav died on the spot while Singh is admitted in Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where his condition is stated to be critical. The cause for the incident yet to be known.”

“A CRPF company was deployed in the area this month to manage the rush of ‘kanwariyas’ (followers of Lord Shiva who use this route at this time of the year to return from their pilgrimage to Hardwar). The troopers had returned from their night duty,” Sahi added.

However, police suspect that injured trooper might have tried to kill himself after shooting his colleague dead.

The police claim that personal enmity was behind the incident.

“From preliminary investigations it is believed that the both had got into a heated argument over personal enmity and fired at each other in a fit of rage,” Sahi said.

About seven bullets were fired in the incident.
