Ahmedabad : Criticising the central and state governments for failing to bring any terrorist to book in recent times, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) international general secretary Pravin Togadia called for a law stronger than the Prevention of Terrorist Activities (POTA) to curb terror acts.
“In the last 10 years not one terrorist has been held accountable. It is an abject failure of both the central and state governments,” Togadia told reporters.
He called for a law more stringent than the now repealed POTA. “Let India too bring a law as Britain has done. The British law not only holds the terrorists accountable but also those who propagate or profess jihad,” he said.
Asked whether the Unlawful Activities Act was not enough to check terror, Togadia said: “It is not sufficient to curb terrorism. A law stronger than POTA is needed.”
“Our demand is: Crush the jihadi terror from Gujarat to Jammu and Kashmir. This can be done only if the police are given powers equal to that of the army. Even if the Gujarat police had been given a free hand they could have controlled terrorist with a firm hand,” Togadia said.
