Ramallah : The Israeli authorities have released Dr Omar Abdulrazzaq, a finance minister in the deposed Hamas government, after spending two years in prison, Israeli media reported.
Abdulrazzaq was arrested in 2006 and was set free Sunday after serving his two-year sentence.
Israel had arrested 40 Hamas MPs on charges of belonging to the Islamic resistant movement, causing it to lose its majority in the Palestinian National Council (PLC), or parliament, which has not held a single session since Hamas took over control of the Gaza Strip.
Among Hamas prisoners locked up in Israeli jails are Dr Aziz Duwaik, the PLC Speaker, MP Marwan Barghouthi, Fatah secretary-general in the West Bank, and Jamal Al-Tairawi, who was arrested on charges that he belonged to the Fatah military wing.
