New Delhi : Many aspects of India’s freedom movement and lesser-known freedom fighters will soon find their place of pride in a new audio-visual museum to be set up at the Jamia Milia Islamia here.
The museum, to be called The Independence Experience, will be constructed over an area of five acres at an investment of Rs.600 million.
“There are many freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the country but are yet to get their due recognition in the public sphere and books. We shall try to portray their contribution audio-visually through this endeavour,” said Mushirul Hasan, vice chancellor of Jamia and noted historian.
He said the museum would trace the history of the freedom struggle from 1857 to 1947. “It will be a part of our campus and spread the message of communal harmony and patriotism.”
Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh will lay the foundation of the museum on Aug 9 and it will open to public within four years.
Hasan said since Jamia was founded during the freedom movement, the human resource development ministry decided to house the museum in their campus.
