Tehran : Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Algerian counterpart President Abdelaziz Bouteflika have underscored the need for further expansion of bilateral relations.
The two presidents stressed it was important to ensure that the agreements already signed by the two sides are implemented.
Expressing their satisfaction over the current level of bilateral cooperation, the two leaders called for cooperation in the areas of housing, infrastructures, cement and pharmaceutical industries, manufacturing vehicle parts, and oil and gas.
Voicing their concern over the critical situation in the Palestinian occupied lands, particularly the Gaza Strip, the two presidents said that Israeli atrocities are against international regulations and ignorance of basic human rights.
Ahmadinejad and his Algerian counterpart called for solidarity of the Palestinian nation, adding that the rights of the Palestinian nation will not be restored unless the occupied lands are liberated. They also called for liberation of the Golan heights from Israeli occupation.
Expressing their satisfaction over the positive developments in Lebanon to establish the Lebanese democratic government following Doha agreement, they voiced their support for the process of national consensus in Lebanon.
They also underlined the need for preserving territorial integrity and sovereignty of neighbouring Iraq and called for withdrawal of the occupying forces from that country.
Expressing their support for the Sudanese stability and security in line with the country’s national interest, the two presidents criticized the arrest warrant issued against Sudanese President Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir by the International Criminal Court.
Based on the joint statement, the Iranian and Algerian presidents stressed that producing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes is the legitimate right of all nations and called for full implementation of the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
The two leaders also condemned terrorism in any shape and urged the United Nations to confront the phenomenon throughout the globe.
The Algerian president then invited Ahmadinejad to visit his country in the near future. The invitation was accepted by the Iranian president.
Bouteflika, heading a high-ranking economic and political delegation, arrived in Tehran Sunday afternoon at the official invitation of the Iranian president.
He was accompanied by his country’s foreign affairs, oil, health, housing, and science ministers.
During his stay, he conferred with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, President Ahmadinejad and several senior officials on issues of mutual interests as well as regional and global developments.
