Rescuers so far recovered four bodies including a child and three women and also rescued eight injured people from the spot, private news agency UNB reported.

One died later on the way to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

The tragedy took place as the victims’ hill-foot thatched houses were damaged by the landslide early in the morning.

Landslides take place easily in the country’s southeastern hilly areas following heavy monsoon rains usually from June to September every year.

In June, 2007, some 123 people were killed by a landslide in Chittagong district.
