Dubai : Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) Wednesday confirmed its decision not to take part in the second edition of World Cup Twenty20 in 2009.
ZC officials had previously indicated their country’s willingness to step back from the second edition in England, during the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) annual conference week in Dubai.
ZC arrived at the decision after recognising that England was unlikely to issue visas for the team for the World Cup Twenty20. Zimbabwe had already cancelled the bilateral series with England slated earlier in the year.
“We are grateful to Zimbabwe Cricket for confirming the decision taken by its officials,” ICC president David Morgan said in a press release Wednesday
“This allows the ICC the opportunity to plan with certainty the World Twenty20 as well as giving Scotland … plenty of preparation time ahead of the tournament,” he said.
