Bhopal : Hunger forced an 11-year-old girl to commit suicide in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur town, the police said Wednesday.
Sanjeeda, a resident of Moti Nagar in Jabalpur, committed suicide late Tuesday evening by hanging herself.
“She was hungry for the past two days because there was nothing to eat in the house. I tried to get foodgrain under the chief minister’s Annapurna Yojana (scheme) but all in vain,” Sanjeeda’s mother Praveen told the police.
However, Jabalpur collector Hariranjan Rao told IANS that food particles were found in the girl’s stomach during the post-mortem examination.
“It is doubtful that she took the extreme step due to hunger,” he said. “The matter is being investigated.”
